Address Change Passport
If there is a change of address in Indian Passport, then it is always recommended that you apply for change of address in your nearest passport office.
Reasons for change of Address in Passport- If your passport is lost or stolen then the people who find it can immediately contact you at the address given in the passport. If the address is changed then it will be difficult for them to contact you.
- In case of emergency while you are traveling it will be easy to contact your family members at the address given in the passport.
Passport Application Form for Change of Address
There are two ways to get a passport application form, one is to register online and take a print out of the application form and second is to directly get the application form from nearest passport office or speed post centers.
As the passport application form is machine readable, there are some guidelines to fill in the application form.
- Use Capital letters only.
- Use black or blue ball pen only.
- Leave on box after completing a word while filling in the boxes.
- Write clearly in the boxes with out touching the boundaries.
- Adjust the information to fit in the given number of boxes.
- Do not write anything outside the box. Avoid over-writing.
- Complete the applications in full.
Apply for Change of Name in Passport
If you have registered online then you will be given a appointment date and time, you need to submit the printed application form in the passport office at the given date and time. The passport application can be submitted at
- The counter of the passport office
- The speed post centers
- District passport cells
- Passport collection centers
An application for a passport may be submitted personally or through a representative carrying an authority letter.
Tatkal Scheme
For people who have an urgency to travel and need passport there is a tatkal scheme in which passport is issued less time than the normal procedure with change of Address. There will an additional fee for applying under tatkal scheme.

I have applied for change of my wife's name in my Passport. She was changing her name from her maiden name. We applied for both the passports together. She had received her passport within two months but I did not receive mine. Meanwhile we changed our residence and shifted to a new house. After two years when I tried to apply for a new passport giving particulars of the earlier one, I came to know from an agent that my passport was issued during my first application and it is with the regional passport office. Someone suggested that I should request the regional office to dispatch it in my earlier address, which I don't want to do.
I am sure there are provisions of intimating the passport office that I have changed my address before the passport was issued and I can re apply. Please advise if it is possible to re-apply.

Documents required:
The list of documents that can be given as proof for passport address change can be get from passport.gov.in website
The proof that I submitted is from HDFC Bank
1. Address proof letter with photo from HDFC will take 2 or 3 days and will be charged some amount too.
2. Statement for past 6 months from the bank (along with bank seal) will cost 50 rs.
The above address proof is enough.

The Regional passport office in Chennai (also known as Shastri Bhavan) is located at Nungambakkam,Chennai. Anybody will guide you to the place.
1. Grab a Miscellaneous form for 5 rs from vendors sitting outside in the ground floor.
2. Go to second floor to the Miscellaneous Services Counter
3. Two persons will be sitting in the counter. The first one verifies your application and the proof documents you are going to submit and signs in your application. The second person collects cash/dd for the service (here ,it is Change of Address,300rs) and gives you receipt. The second person will collect your passport, application and other documents and give you receipt. Thats it you can go back home. Your passport (necessary changes made) will be sent to the address via Speed Post in a week's time.
Note:
1. Go early ,alteast by 8 30 to the miscellaneous counter and wait. The counter staffs arrive by 9 30.
2. Take a photocopy of your passport in all the pages where there are entries, along with your documents and application
3. Double check whether you have taken the necessary proof documents.
4. If your passport is not issued from Chennai Passport Office, then there will be an extra process apart from what I have mentioned above, better be aware of it.

In addition...
For Passports issued from centres other than Chennai, the first officer in Miscellaneous counter will sign in our application and ask us to go to room no. 4 (the latest one - Code word "BISON" - what i heard) and get your passport verified from the officer. That officer in room no. 4 will verify your passport in their database and attach a printout of the passport details (from their database) and put their seal as 'Verified'. Once it is done, you come back to first officer in Miscellaneous counter and then he starts checking.
Note: Keep your original copies of Bank Statement, Address from Bank etc...with the form. If the original proof (like Ration Card) which cannot be submitted, attach the photocopy, but don't forget to carry it (because he will verify the original document).
