Ajit Wadekar

Ajit Wadekar was born on 1st april 1941. His full name is Ajit Laxman Wadekar. Ajit wadekar was a left handed batsman and a great slip fielder. He made his first class debut for mumbai in the year 1958. Consistent spectacular performances saw him get selected in the indian national team in 1961.

Ajit Wadekar's Career

Ajit wadekar made his test debut in the year 1966 against West indies. He played 37 test matches for india mostly batting at order no 3.He had a decent batting average of 31.7. Ajit wadekar was also recognized because of his sharpness in the field. He was a great slip fielder.

Ajit Wadekar-The Captain

Ajit wadekar was selected as the captain of the indian national side in 1971. He gathered good sucess as a captain too. In fact he was the first indian captain to win a test series abroad. He did it in back to back series against england and west indies. Both series were won 1-0.

Other Achievements

Ajit Wadekar was also a manager of the indian cricket team in 1990's. He managed a team that was captained by mohammad azharrudin.
