Every registered member is issued a registration-cum-identity slip by the registration authority which they have to carry as an identity slip during the Yatra. Amarnath yatra board also recommends insurance for all pilgrims since journey is a tough one.
==When to Visit Amarnath==
The Amarnath Yatra is organised by the J &K Govt and it takes place during the months of July to August though the actual dates vary from year to year, depending on weather forecast and the date of Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) in the month of Sharavan.
One has to trek to a height of about 14,500 ft to reach the temple, apart from going on foot; there are also options of taking a pony(''khacchar'') or palanquin (four people carries you) ride.

The climatic conditions can vary from rain to snowfall. Sometimes whether changes continuously and temperatures can decrease till about -5 degree C. The yatra is mostly undertaken during the rainy season, the only time when the caves can be accessed.
