Kolkata Municipal Corporation was established on 1873. It is divided in 15 parts. KMC provides services like supply of drinking water; solid waste management, road maintenance; street lighting; slum development works, etc. Kolkata has an area of 187 square km; therefore 15 sub parts are present in all over the city.
At present KMC is managed by the mayor. KMC deals with many sections, today we will learn with how to attain an amusement license of KMC.
Amusement license of KMC is basically the license related with the amusement business activities such as theatres, cinema houses, circuses, fairs, dancing halls, carnivals, fetes, video Shows/Games, Cyber Cafes, Cable TV operators, Online Lottery Operators, Restaurants, Restaurants with Bar, exhibitions, Hotels, Planetariums, Pool Parlors, Clubs & similar public resorts. Amusement department issues permission to pursue these business related activities under section 422 read with Sec.543 (2) of the KMC Act 1980.
For attaining an amusement license the following procedure is to be followed:
If we are engaged with any business activities including Annexure B then we have to apply for Amusement license and pay the license fee for starting a business. Amusement license’s validity is from the date of issuing till the end of the financial year that is 31st March. To pay annual license fee the amusement license has to be renewed.
Rules and Regulations
Application for casual or regular shows can be attained by filling Proforma Application form. The amusement fee is to be submitted between 11AM and 2:30 PM at KMC HQ. After submitting the fees the amusement license is issued.
To get an amusement license for a restaurant, cyber café, cinema hall we have to write a letter on our business letterhead or on plain paper which is to be addressed to the Sr. Amusement Officer, KMC, for carrying out the business activities. Annexure B should be addressed to get the license. Certain things are to be attached with the letter that are:
- . Recent rent bills
- . Electricity bills
- . Rental agreement paper or purchase deed to prove lawful tenancy or ownership of proposed amusement site.
The payment of amusement fee in order to continue the business operations is necessary. The payment can be done by cheque, cash or demand draft in the favour of KMC. The cheques and DD’s can be mailed to-Sr. Amusement Officer 5, S.N. Banerjee Road, Kolkata 70003.

An amusement license must be renewed by April every year at the end of the financial year that is 31st March. A reminder is issued to all the holders by KMC on June regarding outstanding dues. The renewals must be paid in April or May that is at the starting of a financial year.
