Arthritis, affecting all age groups is controllable
Arthritis is a common disease prevalent throughout the world. It can affect people of all age groups and is non communicable.Although there is not much cure of the disease but newer medicines can provide some relief to the ailing. Taking certain precautions can help in controlling it.
Definition of ARTHRITIS
Arthritis is a disease that causes pain and loss of
movement of the joints. The word arthritis means
joint inflammation.Arthritis is usually chronic.This
means that it can last on and off for a lifetime. People of all age groups ,including children and young adults can develop arthritis.
Inflammation is a reaction of the body that causes swelling ,redness, pain and loss of motion in an affected area.
It is the major physical problem in the most serious forms of
Arthritis.
There are several variations of arthritis.Different types of arthritis which have a different cause.Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are autoimmune diseases in which the body is attacking itself.
1) Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection
2) Gouty arthritis is caused by deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint that results in subsequent inflammation.
There is another form of gout arthritis known as pseudogout. The most common form of arthritis ,osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative joint disease and occurs following trauma to the joint, following an infection of the joint or simply as a result of ageing.
The most common types are Rheumatoid arthritis, Gout and osteoarthritis.
Sympotms
There are many symptoms which can clearly indicate the onset of arthritis and they are discussed below
Ache and inflexibility and firmness in the joints, anaemia, colitis.
Osteoarthritis Arthritis sympotms: This is degenerative arthritis or degenerative joint disease (DJD). It arises when the cushioning cartilage in a joint breaks down.Commonly affects neck, shoulders, hands, foot knees, hip and fingers. The pain frequently increases after work out.
Rheumatoid arthritis sympotms: Often called ‘cooked food ailment’In this arthritis, immune system attacks the lining or synovial membranes of the joints. Joint damage can be severe and deforming. It may involve the whole body and also causes fatigue, weight loss, anaemia, and affects lungs, heart and eyes. It develops gradually over several months and stillness in one or
additional joints. Finally the whole body is affected.
Sympotms are constipation and deformed hands and feet.
Gout arthritis symptoms: It is a metabolic disorder in which uric acid builds up in the blood and crystals form in joints and other places. This sudden attack causes mainly in the big toe, but any joint can be affected.
Juvenile arthritis symptoms: The most common form is Rheumatoid arthritis.
Psoriatic arthritis symptoms: Bone and other joint tissues become inflamed and like rheumatoid arthritis it may spread in the whole body.
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus arthritis symptoms: It involves skin in lupus erythematosus, joints, muscles and sometimes internal organs. Sympotms usually appear in women of child bearing age but can occur in anyone at any age.
ROOT OF ARTHRITIS
Structural changes in articular cartilage in the joint
Hormonal disparity, physical and emotional strain
Genetic
TREATMENT OF ARTHRITIS
Proper diet
No bananas , no smoking
No coffee and no tea
Neatness and cleanliness should be maintained
Bathe regularly
A corner stone of therapy of any form of arthritis is physical therapy and occupational therapy to maintain joint mobility and range of motion. The proper kind and amount of therapy will vary depending upon the underlying causes and upon individuals factors that the physician discusses.
Alternative medicines and arthritis
Alternative medicine treats what they see as the underlying cause of the disease and for this reason this treatment can result in a far better outcome for the patient.
Many types of CAM are tried for Rheumatoid arthritis
Such as
Preparation made from botanicals
Vitamins and minerals in unconventional amounts
Hydotherapy
Massage
Many drugs are now used to treat the inflammation and pain associated with arthritis. Aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Naproxen have immediate analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects and are relatively safe.
The most disheartening aspect of the disease is that it does not get easily cured through medicines when it is in chronic stages. However, researchers have found that with regular practice of yoga this disease can be cured within two months when it is of moderate type In chronic cases, it takes four to five months or more to cure and restore normal health. .Avoid things which strain the nerves.
Concentration and meditation give the best results.

Referred Pain in
Referred Pain in Osteoarthritis (OA);Rarely the pain is felt far from the affected joint. This is known as 'referred pain' in Medical parlance. Some people with OA in their hips feel referred pain in their knees.OA of the spine can cause pressure on nerves that will cause pain in the arms or legs.Regards,a.nazar.

Osteoarthritis(OA):The bone
Osteoarthritis(OA):The bone ends become thickened due to the formation of spurs of bone called 'osteophytes'.Bits of bone and cartilage may float loosely in the joint space and may contribute to pain occurs with movement. At its worst, when the cartilage becomes completely worn out,the bone ends then grind painfully together when joint moves. The surroundings tendons, ligaments and muscles are indirectly affected and become weaker.Regards,a.nazar.

changes in the joint in oa;In a healthy joint, the joint tissues(cartilages) are flexible and elastic, which help in smooth movement of joint. In OA,joint pathology is characterized by overgrowth of bone on one hand and loss of cartilage on the other. In OA,the cartilage gradually wears away leaving the ends of the bones unprotected.Without the proper gliding surface, the joint becomes painful to move.Regards,a.nazar.

Sir,R.A.is not only a disease of the joints. The whole body suffers. The person feels tired, weak, feverish. The muscle near the painful joint start getting smaller and this makes the weakness worse.Organs like lungs, heart, eyes and digestive system may also get involved in later stages.Regards,a.nazar.

Sir,Later the arthritis may spread to other joints such as elbows, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles.Even the joints in the jaw and spine especially the neck can be affected.Rarely a hoarse voice may indicate arthritis in the joints of larynx.(voice box).At some stage the tendon sheaths frequently become inflammed which adds to the pain and swelling.Sometimes the fingers in hands and toes in the feet bend and deform in which case it becomes difficult to straighten that part.Regards,a.nazar.

Further Development of R.A.In most cases, starts gradually spreading over several weeks with persistent pain and stiffness in one or more joints.Usually the hands and feet are affected. This stiffness is worse on walking in the morning and wears off during the day.Regards,a.nazar.

Auto Immune Response;Another theory put forward is Auto immune theory. This happens when the immune system mistakenly seems to turn against the body.Normally in a healthy individual, antibodies are produced against the invading antigents,to product the body.If the antibodies are directed against parts of the person's own body cells, they are called auto-antibodies and the disease is termed 'auto immune'.Thus the continued presence of many immune complexes initiates inflammation.Regards,a.nazar.

Causes of RA.Many theories
Causes of RA.Many theories have been put forward to find the causes of this disease..Infection: The most reasonable theory suggests that RA may be due to some kind of infection by tiny germs called viruses. These are yet unknown.Viruses could find their way into the joints and trigger off inflamation.Regards,a.nazar.

Arthritis; The liquid that lubricates the cartilage is called the synovial fluid, contained within the synovial membrane. The delicate synovial membrane is protected by a strong, fibrous layer called the'capsule'.If the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid in a joint becomes sluggish and the joint fluid(synovial fluid)grows stagnant, the waste products and poisons of cellular metabolism build in the lubricating fluid (synovial fluid)of the joints rather than being efficiently transported to the skin and kidneys for elimination from the body.Acidic wastes and toxins, accumulated in the joint fluid, irritate the sensitive nerve fibres in the joint causing pain and stiffnes. If this situation persists for a long time, the structure of the joint begins to degenerate. The joint fluid begins to dry up,the soft cartilage lining corrades away and the bones themselves begin to accumulate excessive calcium, forming new bone growth which limits movement.Gradually the whole joint is destroyed and movement becomes impossible. In fact a careful examination and analysis of the synovial fluid can easily provide a clue to determine the type and extent of arthiris.More specific causes of arthiritis is according to the type of arthritis.Regards,a.nazar.

Arthiritis literally refers
Arthiritis literally refers to Pain and inflammation of the joints.Inflammation is a classical feature of Arthiris. Also it is a defensive mechanism by which the body reacts protectively against an invasion of its tissues. The most often affected joints in arthris are hips, knees, ankles, elbows and fingers.clinical characteristics of inflamations:1)Redness,2)Pain,3)Heat,4)Swelling;a few important other clinical features of arthiritis are;1)Loss of mobility/stiffness,2)Instability,3)Deformity;Physiology of Arthiritis:Two bones meet at a joint and are connected in a way that permits each to move in relation to the other. At the end of each bone there is a cap of smooth white cartilage which is a tough tissue, which acts as a cushion when the joint is in use.The cartilage thus prevents bone to bone rubbing and consquent wear and tear.Regards,a.nazar
