BSNL 3G frequency

BSNL is the state owned telecom service provider. BSNL has launched next generation 3G mobile services in the country even as the private operators are still in queue to get spectrum through auction process.

BSNL has launched its India Golden 50 tariff scheme thus increasing the pulse duration for all calls to 120 s , the tarrifs have been reduced by 50-80 per cent. Currently, a pulse is calculated at 90 s for national calls to other networks and 60 s within the network. Besides upgrading mobile data speeds to 2 mbps from the present 1444 Kbps, video screening of calls, video on demand, mobile surveillance, live TV, movie downloads etc will also be provided on 3G platform.

BSNL has tied up with Nokia, Sony and Samsung for handset bundling , the cheapest of which is priced at Rs 7000. 3G data card has to be bought for faster speed and the SIM card can be bought from BSNL itself. One should look at the 3G frequency supported by the data card , most budget card are single band and support the 2100 Mhz this is the frequency on which BSNL 3G operates but there are three other frequencies on which the 3G can operate .One should be comfortable with single band 2100 mhz frequency as most of the private operators will use that because most of the 3G phones sold in India are using 2100 Mhz but one if one wants maximum compatibility and roaming around the world and would like to use the data card in other countries, then a triband 3G card is the best option.

BSNL promises speeds over 384 KBPS for its 3G network. As per TRAI , speeds over 256 KBPS is classified as broadband. But GPS and 3G are different. GPS or Global Positioning System is a hardware feature and it depends on the handset you use. One needs to have a GPS gadget or phone with GPS facility. To work with GPS, internet connection is required. With 3G connection, one will not automatically get GPs facility.
