Settings for BSNL 3G on Nokia and other mobiles: The configuration settings can be done in two steps. First, the mobile should work in 3G network mode which is denoted by UMTS( Universal mobile Telecommunications System) mode in the mobile. If it is set to dual mode (UMTS+GSM) , the mobile will falll back to GSM mode in absence of UMTS network.The step goes as : Go to menu –settings- connectivity (or wherever you may edit network settings) and select network.Open network mode and change it to UMTS. The default is dual mode.
Step 2- Configure your 3G Access point- Just like a GPRS access point , one needs an access point for 3G too. BSNL has changed its access point in some parts of India.
One has to put the following access point according to the BSNL region leaving all other things to defaults in access point settings.For BSNL UP ( East) Access point is ‘bsnlnet’ .

Activating BSNL 3G- Activation is easy one just needs to buy 3G SIM which costs Rs 300 with seven days validity and no talk time , then recharge it with one of the data recharge they provide. One can get Rs 400 recharge which gives one thirty days validity and 1G of data usage.
Now this BSNL 3G works as backup connection as well as internet on move as one has two connections , 1 regular a DSL and second one is BSNL 3G.
