Center for Product Design and Manufacturing

The Center for Product Design and Manufacturing or CPDM was started in the year of 1996. It is located in the fastest growing city in Asia, Bangalore. The institute was established to pursue excellence in research, teaching and industry interaction in the area of design. The Master of Design or M.Des is a two year full time graduate course. CPDM was the first center to do design research in India and made India self-reliant in terms of design knowledge.

Courses offered

Some of the core courses offered are Creative Engineering Design, Product planning and Marketing, Product visualization, communication and presentation, Elements of design, Materials Manufacturing and design, Computer aided design, Applied Economics, Design and society, Mechanism design, Design Management, Mini design projects etc. There are also additional courses that can be taken which include Mechatronics, CAE in product design, Design creativity, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing etc.

The 2 year M.Des course has four semesters and two summer terms. After completion of the course the students are offered placements at prestigious companies like Ashok Leyland, BPL Telecom, Larsen and Toubro, General Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, Suzuki Japan, TATA Motors, Videocon, Maruti Udyog etc, which enable them to make a head start in their career.


For admission a student having diverse engineering degrees can pursue the M.Des course at CPDM. Candidates must have B.E/B.Tech/B.Des or an equivalent degree to be eligible for admission. The contact information is give below.
