How to check Passport Status
Once you have applied for your Indian passport, there are a couple of ways to check the status of the Passport. If you have applied for a new passport or renewed your current one, you should receive your passport approximately six weeks after the date of application. If you have applied under tatkal scheme, you should receive your passport around two weeks after the date of application. If you want to know status of your passport than you can do one of the following things,
Checking Passport Status Online
You can check your Indian passport status online by logging on to http://passport.gov.in/ site. Once you go to this site select your city under Status Page Tab, you will be redirected to the status page of respected city. In the status page of your city enter the reference file no. which is your application number and select the year in which you applied for the passport. Once after you enter the required details, the status of your passport is displayed to you.
Check Passport Status through Phone
You can check your Indian passport status by calling respective passport office. The phone numbers will be available on your application form, please note down the phone numbers before submitting the application form or you can find the telephone numbers online also. Once you call the respected passport office give your application number for reference and know your current status of the passport.
It is always best practice to take a photocopy of your passport application form before submitting it. You may need it if your passport is getting delayed or to know your passport status.
