Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA)

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) was established in the year 1972 and in 1974 it became a statutory body. Apart from the Chairman and the Vice Chairman there are 18 members in it who hold different positions in the Government Departments. The CMDA covers 16 Municipalities, 10 Panchayat Unions, 20 Town Panchayats, 214 villages and 2 cantonments.

Getting your Grievances attended

If you have not yet received any response to the grievances already informed, you can contact vccmda@vsnl.net. You can always contact the Chief Vigilance Officer regarding any corruption or malpractices in the CMDA at cvo.cmda@gmail.com.

Functions of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority

The CMDA carries out surveys of the CMDA planning area and prepares report on it. Based on these surveys, the CMDA charts out a detailed development plan, for the area that comes under its jurisdiction. They prepare a land use map which helps them in proper development. They prepare a new town development plan and secure layout for any area that is the planning area.

Units of CMDA

The CMDA has different units to perform different functions regarding the development of the area that comes under its jurisdiction. The Area Plans Unit is responsible for issuing planning permissions, approval of layouts, and reclassification of lands, reviewing of the local body’s performance, and enforcing regulations in the area. The Area Development Unit executes the strategies. Master Plan Unit, Project Management Unit, and the Enforcement Cell are the other functionaries that work on the strategies on the CMDA.

Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority 40 ft. Road "Worth about 5 Crores" occupied by a Individual at "Muthu Kumaran Nagar" Layout at Poonamallee, Chennai-600056, Tamil Nadu.
We lodged Complaint Numbers 751646, 744202, 244608, 242214, 747684, before the Honble Chief Ministers Cell and also other concern departments with entire documents of Gift Deed, Layout Sketch, CMDA Letter and detailed report or taking action against the encroache of a ROAD 40 FT. IN WIDTH AND 250 FT. IN LENGTH IN ALL 10,000 SQ.FT. OF 40 FT. ROAD AT REAR SIDE OF POONAMALLEE BUS TERMINUS (HEART OF CITY). Though Ten Months have passed since then NO ACTION has been taken against the encroacher by the Taluk Officials, Municipality Officials, District Collectorate Thiruvallur, and other departments and the said person is enjoying the government property 40 ft. Road free of cost for the morethan 20 years. Hence kindly take stern action against the encroacher and retrieve the government land at the earliest and to retrive the land for the Public Purpose, (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority also declared the said property as Road vide their Letter No.EC/CCW/NC/PTN/14895/2013 DATED 08.11.2013 and the same is forwarded to Executive Officer Poonamallee Panchayat Union (Poonamallee Municipality), Chennai. It has been proved by CMDA itself that it is Government Land. What happens to the Government Departments, and C.M.Cell. for the Past 20 years Muthukumaran Nagar Association and neighbour people lodged complaint with all departments, they are not taken any steps up to this date and we don't know what they are doing. Again i asked the Government Authorities they are all accepting the property is Road and the same is compounded by an institution. Hence the our lordships "Supreme Authorities" may kindly be look in to the matter and take stern action against the erring Officials and retrieve the land to the public purpose AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I have also presented the said grievance to the PG Portal Five Months ago and numbered as GOVTN/E/2014/00493, GOVTN/E/2014/00620, GOVTN/E/2014/00621. If the Supreme Authorities are not taken any steps to recover the public road there is no other alternative to the Public to live in the said "Muthu Kumaran Nagar" Layout at Poonamallee, Chennai-600056, Tamil Nadu.

My father bought 8 grounds of land in Punkovil Layout, Attipattu, Ennore, in 1975, till the later 2000 there was some movement about the region. From 2000 we have no word or news from the Punkovil Land Owners Assoication. How do I get hold of my property. In between we heard some news that the land is under litigation. Please help me out.
I am currently living in Cochin please help me how to start. further can you clarify whether Punkovil layout IS authorised under CMDA.
