History of the Chip Magazine

CHIP is an Information technology monthly magazine and it is published by Info media 18 Ltd. The production was started in the year 2003. CHIP is in fact the Indian edition of the popular German monthly magazine by the name, CHIP. Originally, CHIP was launched in India in April 1998. At that point of time, it was published in India by Jasubhai Digital Media. It reached a circulation of 1, 20,000. Later, it parted ways with the German partners and launched their independent publication, "Digit". After sometime, the publication rights came to Info media. It now has an audience database of over 75,000. The CHIP is one of the most widely read and accepted magazines in India in the field of technology and science. Every issue carries with itself a free dual layer DVD containing game demos, utility software, and at times antivirus or anti-spy wares. This process of supplying a dual layer DVD was started from the magazine's anniversary in 2006.

The various sections of the magazine can be slated as follows:

News Wire: This section covers all the news and happenings in the technological world.
Cover Story: Here, the month's main topic is discussed
Hardware: A detailed manual to new releasing hardware in the market.
Applications: An overview of upcoming software and other applications.
Hands-On: articles written to enhance readers' computing knowledge by letting out useful tips and tricks.
Unwind: a section for venting out leisurely happenings.
Dr.CHIP: expert's column to solve various problems and answer and queries.
Letters: the place for readers' letters.

Targeted Audience

CHIP mainly targets the geek section of the society, the age group of 18-35 years, the section which is more interested in technology and scientific developments, rather than cinematic gossip and reviews. It contains articles and contents concerning mainly with the technological know-how. Due to its strategies and persistent efforts, CHIP has formed a huge fan base among the Indian youth which loves to keep track of all new technology. In simple words, it is a "chip" off the common block!!
