Formerly known as the College of Ceramic Technology it has now been renamed as The Government College of Engineering & Ceramic Technology (GCE&CT). From pre Independence times this college which was started by a highly esteemed educator Professor Sasadhar Ray has taught and shaped some of the finest minds trained them in the field of ceramics and related industries. Going from strength to strength over the years from only a Diploma Course in the Ceramic Technology to a B. Tech Degree Course in Ceramic Technology to a B. Tech degree course in Ceramic Technology, IT, and Computer Science the institute has carved its own path to progress. It has also from time to time been affiliated to Calcutta University, the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) and currently with to AICTE, New Delhi.
Courses Offered
The courses cover subjects like white wares, values & ethics in profession, refractories, quality assurance, process ceramics, physical ceramics, metallurgy, instrumentation & process control, industrial management energy & environment management, glass, financial management & accounts, engineering materials science, ceramic coatings, cement & concrete and advanced ceramics. The institute has a variety of labs to help is teaching and imparting quality education. Laboratories for cement and concrete, chemical analysis, electrical engineering, electronics, energy engineering workshop, engineering graphics, glass, physics, refractoriness, software, unit operation, white wares and instrumental analysis all help in the cause. The Government College of Engineering & Ceramic Technology also has a good well stocked library which is frequently replenished with journals and periodicals which keep students upto date on the industry.
