Dilip Balwant Vengsarkar was born on April 6th 1956 in raippur Maharashtra.He was a legendary indian batsman and a member of the world cup winning squad. He is currently an administrator of indian cricket.

Dilip Vengsarkar's History

Dilip Vengsarkar busted into the international scene with just one hit match where he
scored 112 against the rest of india while playing for india. He handled the lights of Bedi and Prasanna with little discomfort which caught the eye of one and all. His potential was quickly recognised and was straightaway included in the indian team. However sucess did not come early and it was only in 1977 when dilip vengsarkar established himself as a player in the long run for india.

Career Highlights

One of the biggest highlight of dilip vengsarkar's career is probably the world cup in 1983. In the coming years he was rated as the best batsman by Coopers and Lybrand rating (a predecessor of the PWC ratings).Dilip Vengsarkar was also handed captaincy despite missing the 1987 world cup semi final due to stomach injury. Although he started off well, his career as a captain was short lived.


Dilip Vengsarkar was awarded the following:

  • Padma Shri honor in 1987.
  • Wisden Cricketer of the year in 1987.
