The Public Provident Fund scheme is meant for all Indian citizens by the government. Anybody of Indian origin, can walk up to a State Bank of India Branch, and opt to open a Public Provident Fund account, under the Public Provident Fund Scheme. The person may also opt to open the Public Provident Fund account at one of the post offices too. Not much forms or paper work is required for the same.

You would be required to fill this attached form in all respect and attach a passport size photograph of your on to this form and deposit it at the nearest State Bank of India branch or at the branch where you wish to open your Public Provident Fund account.
In case some one wishes to have the Public Provident Fund opened at a post office then you would be able to download the applicable form from the link mentioned below.

The rest of the procedure remains the same for a Public Provident Fund account with the post office. Post the submission of the form, the account would be opened for you. Also a pass book would be provided to you, where in all the updated balances and the interests credited to your account as per the policies of the government would be updated from time to time. You would not be required to do any run around in case you have a question. All your queries related to the Public Provident Fund account would be handled at the State Bank Of India Branch or the Post office where you have the Public Provident Fund account.
