Government College of Engineering (GCE) Salem

Government College of Engineering (GCE), Salem was started in the year 1966-1967. This is supposed to be the third Government Engineering Institution of Tamilnadu.

GCE comes under DOTE l colleges of Tamilnadu and the admission is made strictly on merit. (No payment seats) The college is at present affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The college is located in a pleasant natural surrounding in 162-hectare area with all facilities for the students and for the staff.

Vision of GCE

The GCE has striven persistently to provide class-A education with a vision to generate skilled and knowledgeable Engineers.

Infrastructure of GCE

There are total six departmental blocks all interconnected by well-furnished roads. There is a big Auditorium that can occupy 600 people. The auditorium is built-in with LCD displays and projectors that serves for cultural activity. There is an air-conditioned guest house provided in the campus for privileged people and visitors.

A medium sized planetarium is also available in GCE to cater to the sixth sense of the student. A government health center is made available inside the college premises for any emergency.

To encourage the sports activity the college has full-length hockey, football and cricket field. Indoor games like table tennis, badminton, tennis, and basketball courts are also made available. Fully equipped gymnasium is also provided.

All the departments are provided with computer laboratories. Internet services are also provided for general awareness.

Full-Fledged digital library

The Salem Government College of Engineering has a full-fledged digital library that has helped to strengthen the college's research potential and thereby enabling the students to get up-to-date information in their chosen field at a single mouse click.

The library is likely to be equipped with art facilities including computers and video conferencing technology shortly. The college has subscription to various organizations to get access to the e-resources and the students are enabled to access large number of online educational resources including journals and e-books through these subscriptions.

All these departments of Governement college of engineering, Salem are offering bachelors degree. But Masters degrees are available only in Welding Technology, Structural Engineering, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Thermal, Mechanical and civil engineering.
