The birthday of Guru Ravidas is celebrated on 16th February as is known as Shri Guru Ravidas Jayanti every year. It is the annual festival for Ravidasis.
- On this day of Guru Ravidas Jayanti an Akhand Path reading takes place which means nonstop chanting and prayers. The Nishan Sahib is changed ceremonially and there is a special aarti and a Nagar Kirtan procession carrying his portrait are taken out to the attendant of music through the streets of the temple locality. In Gurdeheras Ravidas' image is worshipped.
- Guru Ravidas was born in a village near Varanasi, in Uttar Pradesh India in 1376 century. His father was a leather merchant and he belonged to a poor family.
- He rose to a position of great honor through a life of simplicity and piety. He set an example for his followers to break the barriers set up by so called upper castes and set a philosophical and armed path for freedom.
- He motivated his followers against cruel ruling class and incited his followers for a sovereign state of Begampura.
- Guru Ravidas was the first to propel his followers to challenge discrimination on the grounds of caste. With his charm he became popular in the whole world and his followers are called Ravidasis.
- He instructed his followers first to call those untouchables who call others so. He himself belonged to a high caste, although others called him a low caste. He was the first to scientifically prove the highness of his caste.
- On Guru Ravidas Jayanti special pujas and feasts are arranged in the temples which are dedicated to Guru Ravidas.
