Any citizen of India before starting his/her own trade needs obtain a trade license from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Without a proper trade license a trade will not be recognized as a legal trade. Similarly, a trader will also have to renew his/her trade license at the required time. Otherwise his/her trade will cease to be recognized as a legal trade by the KMC. Renewing a trade license is quite easy.
Way to renew trade license
Before your trade license is about to expire a demand notice would be sent to you regarding renewal of license fees. You will have to deposit the fees at any of the Branches of the Banks which will generally specified on the reverse of demand bill. You can make the payment either in cash or by cheque/demand draft/pay order drawn in favor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and payable at Kolkata. After the payment of the fees the demand notice would be deemed as a trade license.
When demand notice is not received
In case when you do not receive the demand notice then you will have to deposit certain important documents at the special computer cell under the License office located in the ground floor of the KMC HO (5, S. N. Banerjee Road). These documents include a photocopy of the last paid trade license and a declaration by you containing details of the trade such as the name of the trade, actual covered area of the business location in square feet, address of the trade, nature of the trade, place and date.
After the submission of these documents a duplicate copy of demand notice would be would be send to you.
