Hyderabad International Airport or Rajiv Gandhi International Airport officially opened on March 23rd, 2008 and its airport code is HYD. It is named after the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) developed and operates this airport. GHIAL is a joint venture of GMR Group, Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad, Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the Airports Authority of India.
Hyderabad Airport is the first Indian airport to have the Airport Operations Control Centre coordinating all the activities at the airport. It has the latest IT systems and Airport Operational Database (AODB) technology.

Hyderabad Airport is located at Shamshabad, a distance of 22km to the southwest of Hyderabad. Its geographical coordinates are Longitude: 78° 28’ 3” and Latitude: 17° 27’ 11” N.
This airport has one of the longest runways of India, 4260 m.In the initial phase, GHIAL has designed this airport to handle 12 million passengers, more than 100,000 metric tons of cargo and 90,000 ATM (Air Traffic Movements) per annum.
How to Reach Hyderabad Airport
Hyderabad Airport is a little outside the city. Taxis and private cars on rent are the best options for reaching the airport but it is very important to negotiate the price.
It is important to reach the international terminal 3 hours before the scheduled departure of flights and the domestic terminal 2 hours before the scheduled departure of flights since Hyderabad airport is a very busy airport and checking may take time.
