The foundation stone of the Joka campus was laid by Sri Morarji Desai, the then Dy. Prime Minister of India on Dec 15, 1968. The Institute moved to its present campus in 1975.
The institute is located in its own sprawling 135 acres campus in Joka, away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. IIM Calcutta has one of the most breath-takingly beautiful academic campuses in the country - spotted with scenic locales, five lakes, exotic birds, and a miniature Howrah Bridge.
Admission Procedure:
All applicants are required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) of the Indian Institutes of Management. Candidates must also submit a Fellow Programme Application Form to the Fellow Programme Office of the Institute. This can be obtained on request from the Senior Administrative Officer (Academic), Fellow Programme Office, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta by a specified date announced every year.
Those who qualify on the basis of the CAT performance, and who meet the eligibility criteria stated above, are called for interview around the middle of April.
A PGDM/PGDCM holder of any of the Indian Institutes of Management who wishes to enter the Fellow Programme need not take CAT, if her/his cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is 6.00/9.00 and above or its equivalent.
NRI/Foreign applicants (without an MBA) wishing to pursue the FP Programme would have to furnish GMAT scores obtained not earlier than three years from the year of application, three letters of recommendation, and a write-up on their research interest (in a suitably designed format).
In preparing this admission list, inputs such as performance in personal interview, the CAT score, academic background and achievements, extra-curricular activities, and post-degree work experience, are taken into consideration.
Eligiblity:
The applicant should hold any one of the following degrees:
• Post Graduate Degree in Management or equivalent professional qualification.
• Post Graduate Degree in other discipline
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology.
Final year students of Bachelor's / Master's degree (such applicants have to complete all requirements of obtaining degree by 30th June of the year of joining).
The Master degree holders should acquire at least 55% marks or its equivalent at the Postgraduate level and at least 50% aggregate marks at the Bachelor's degree level.
Applicants holding Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology must secure First class division.
All applicants must ensure that they have obtained minimum of 50% aggregate marks in secondary (Std. X) and higher-secondary (Std. XII) examinations.

Placements:
The number of firms participating in the campus interviews crossed the 100 mark again this year with around 107 companies making a beeline to hire from the batch of 290 PGP students at IIM-C.
As many as 243 offers had already been made to the students before the beginning of the final placements. This included 153 offers made during the laterals process and the 90 pre-placement offers (PPOs) that were awarded for excellent performance during the summer internship.
Of the foreign job locations which IIM-C grads accepted, the bulk are in the United Kingdom, USA and the Asia Pacific region. The Middle East and many European countries are other major locations offered to the students.
Average domestic salary: Rs 16.4 lakh per annum
The highest package: Rs 65 lakh to Rs 70 lakh per annum
The finance domain is still one of the most preferred sectors, with 34% of the IIM-C batch opting for jobs in the financial sector.
Some of the top notch firms which hired students from the batch of 2008 include Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, UBS, ING, JP Morgan and Barclays. As many as 32 investment bank offers were made to students in the slot zero investment banks.
Consulting firms were preferred by 26% of the students during the placements. An impressive count of 42 offers were made by slot zero consulting firms on campus. Major consulting groups like Mckinsey, Bain, BCG, AT Kearney and AD Little hired in good numbers.
Hostels:-
The campus has four hostels that provide single room accommodation to students with modern amenities and recreation facilities. All the hostels have their own coffee shops,canteens, photocopy units and printer rooms. Every room has its own network connection, which enables fast and round-the-clock Internet access. For the visitors, the institute provides guest-rooms. To take care of the married students’ needs, the institute has provided separate accommodation facilities for them.
Intercom telephones are available in each hostel room with direct inward dialing facilities. Other facilities include state-of-the-art washing machines in every hostel wing for the convenience of students supplimented by dhobis.
Campus life:-
The 135-acre campus of the Institute has a cluster of Administrative and Faculty Office Blocks, fully equipped classrooms, seminar and conference rooms, Management Center for Human Values, residential quarters for students, faculty and staff members, library, an executive training complex, a bank and a post office. The 750-seat state-of-the-art Auditorium is the latest addition to the campus.
The presence of the lush trees and seven lakes makes the campus picturesque and well endowed.
The B.C.Roy Memorial Library of the Institute, is considered as one of the major management libraries in South Asia.
IIMC is an acknowledged leader in computing resource and applications. The campus wide LAN encompasses 1000 nodes/workstations. LAN connectivity is available in each room in the students' hostels, providing the students with 24-hour access to resources like the local network and the Internet from the comfort of their rooms.
