Having well-developed legs is

Having well-developed legs is what long-distance runners are known for. Unfortunately, it tends to stop there. If your body is entirely balanced and symmetrical, it can be very beneficial for your health. Most runners try to avoid carrying extra weight when they exercise. Most of the time, it all comes down to personal preference. You can tone your upper body, and help avoid overuse injuries, if you build up a little bit. Simple body weight exercises will probably do if you don't want to add mass to your torso. When you do these exercises, you will add variety to your weekly workout routines. All you have to do are a few of these exercises, and your body will be more resistant to injury and healthier across the board.

The upper body of the long-distance runner is not their claim to fame. It usually stops with their well-developed legs in regard to their physical achievements. Believe it or not, having a symmetrical and balanced body is something that can be beneficial for you overall. Runners typically don't want to have a lot of weight to carry with them. Personal preference plays a large role in this decision. Since your upper body is in shape (despite the extra weight) you can avoid overuse injuries very easily. Instead of adding serious mass, you could do toning exercises that only work with your body weight. You can add a little variety to your weekly training by doing this. Really, you're not going to harm your ability to run. You are actually going to improve your resistance to injury by doing them.
