Indian Central Railways
Indian railways, from over 150 years are serving the populace of India. The organization, during the wavering conditions of the country assisted the monetary structure of the country. The oldest rail network
Indian Central Railways probably is the oldest rail network of the Indian Railways. This railway network is the largest amongst the 16 zones, divided by the Indian Railways. Indian Center railway also comprises first passenger railhead in India, which connects well with Bombay and Thane. The head quarter of Indian Central railway is in the Mumbai’s Terminus of Chhatrapati Shivaji. Few major cities which come under the zone of Indian Central railways include Bhusawal, Solapur, Kolhapur, Pune and Mumbai.
Important regions of the zone
Indian central railways cover the most important region of Maharashtra, Southern region of Madhya Pradesh and north eastern area of Karnataka. The Indian central Railway is further divided into five zones namely Pune, Solapur, Nagpur, Bhusawal and Mumbai CST. It was established in 1951 on 5th November by combining several government owned railway networks together with Scindia State and Great Indian Peninsula Railway. The Indian Central railway division also featured Southern Uttar Pradesh and northern part of Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
The ‘mileage’ record
Despite its extensive area coverage, Indian Central railway was the biggest railway zone boasting maximum staff and track mileage. Though, these regions were owed to the western zone of Indian Central railways in 2003 for improved administration. Indian central railways zone is also prominent for the Matheran rail network, which connects well with Neral, a Matheran’s hill station on the Western Ghats of the Pune-Mumbai main line. Pushpak xpress, Hussain Sagar, Punjab Mail, Gitanjali Express and Deccan queen are a few distinguished trains which are operated under the central railway’s management.
