Indian Civil Services Exam (ICS)

Indian Civil Services (ICS) is considered as one of the top most offered by Indian government. Indian Civil Services Exam is conducted by UPSC every year to recruit Indian nationals in various civil services. Exam is notified through Rozgar Samchar & Employment News and generally held in May.

IAS , IFS , IPS, Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Indian Customs and Excise Service, Indian Defense Accounts Service,Ordnance Factory Service, Postal Service of India, Indian Civil Accounts Service, Indian Railway Traffic, Indian Railway Accounts, Assistant Security Officers in RPF, Indian Defense Estates Service, Indian Information Service , Civil Service in Armed Forces headquarters, Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman, Div,Dadra,Nagar Haveli Civil Service, Police Service of Pondicherry, IRS(Indian Revenue Service).

Indian Civil Services Exam Eligibility Criteria:

candidates seeking to appear in civil services exam should lie in age range 21- 30 years on Aug 1st of year of entrance test. For SC / ST candidates, upper age limit can be 35 years.

Educational Qualification: candidate should have done graduation in any stream from a recognized university or its equivalent. Candidate’s studying in Graduation final year can also appear but they are required to produce degree proof and other essential documents asked by commission on some prescribed date.

Civil Services Exam Selection Procedure: Entrance exam consists of two parts:

  • Written Test
  • Personality Interview

Written Test is further divided into two parts:

  • Preliminary Examination (objective type)
  • Main Examination (subjective (descriptive) type)

Students who qualify preliminary exam successfully get chance to sit for Main exam. In both preliminary and main exams applicant has to choose two optional subjects of his interest.

Scheme of Civil Services Preliminary Exam:

  • 1st paper: general studies (max 150 marks)
  • 2nd paper : Optional subject selected by candidate ( max 300 marks)

Optional subjects can be any two of the following:
Public Administration, Indian History, Zoology, Law, Mechanical Engineering, Botany, Agriculture, Mathematics, Geography, Sociology, Medical Science, Chemistry, physics, Commerce, Political Science, Civil Engg ,Electrical Engg , Geology, Statistics, Economics, Animal Husbandry / Vetinary Secience, Philosophy, Psychology.

Scheme of Civil Services Main Exam:

  • Paper 1 (qualifying paper) : subjective paper (300 marks) on any Indian language selected by candidate out of 18 languages mentioned in constitution’s viii schedule..
  • Paper 2 (qualifying paper) : 300 marks on English.
  • Paper 3: 200 marks on Essay Writing.
  • Papers 4th & 5th: on general studies (300 marks each).
  • Papers 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th: on any two optional subjects chosen by candidate (300 mark each).
