Indian Railways E-Ticketing

At present the Indian Railways have simplified the procedure of reservation of tickets by introducing the e-ticketing system. This system saves the customers from standing in the long queues outside the reservation center. Rather it is the safe and secured and of course the fastest way of booking the tickets in advance. The E-ticketing facility is only available for express trains from 24.02.2006.

In the e-ticketing system there is no conventional ticket. Rather what comes out is a computer generated slip. The customer will get the reservation from sitting at the home. While travelling in the train he or she will have to carry the identity proof along with the computer generated slip.

During the journey the passenger will have to carry any one of the mentioned identity proofs such as; voter identity card, passport, pan card, driving license and photo identity cards issued by the central or the state government. It is the responsibility of the passengers to carry any one of the identity proofs to prove that they are bonafide passengers and not travelling by any other’s name. if the passengers are not carrying the identity proofs he or she will be treated as passengers travelling without a ticket and will be charged accordingly. If the fails to turn up with the electronic reservation slip or ERS he or she will have to pay a penalty of Rs 50/-.

The passenger will also have to pay service charge of Rs 10 to 25 per ticket in case of lower class and rs 20 to 40 in case of upper class. The charges will be added to the rain fare.

The booking of e-ticket is allowed up to the time of preparation of the charts. This system also allows the facility of changing of name and boarding station as per exact procedure applicable for normal PRS tickets.
