Jaganath temple, located in Puri, in the state of Orissa is one of the most famous places of Hindu pilgrimage. The temple of Jaganath here is dedicated to the Lord Jagannath, who is also known as Krishna to some. Jaganath shares space with other Gods like Balabhadra and Subhadra, the brother and sister, of lord Jagannath.

What to see and do at Jagannath Temple
Most devotes offer puja to the lord, which can be done through the Pandas who offer their services to you. Do not be taken by high rates, there are pandas of every possible rate possible. The Deities are decorated and one can see and participate in the puja that takes place.
The images of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Chakra Sudarshan are made of margosa wood. One of the good things about this temple is that you will be allowed very close to the lord. Be very careful of the crowds, the old and those who are not too physically fit might find it difficult to handle the rush.
Festivities at Jagannath Temple
The Ratha Yatra is one of the most famous festivals of the Jagannath temple. Unless you specifically want to see this festival, it is advisable not to visit the temple during this time. There is a crisis of hotels too during this time. The rath Yatra occurs every year in June or July. During this occassion, the deities are taken from the temple and placed in large chariots which are drawn along Grand Road to the Gundecha temple.

The nearest airport to Puri is Bhubaneswar, 60 km. Most major domestic carriers operate their flights here.
There are several direct express and super fast train that operate from <a href="/node/63694">Tirupati</a> ,New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Okha, Ahmedabad, etc. Important trains to Puri are Jagannath Express, Kolkata (Howrah) Puri Howrah Express, New Delhi; Purushottam Express.
Buses are available to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. There are services every 10-15 minutes. From Bhubaneshwar it is a 60 kms drive to Puri.
