Kapal Mochan Mela

'''Kapal Mochan Mela''' is held every year in a small village of Kapal Mochan near Bilaspur, which is located 28 kms from Yamunanagar district in Haryana. The Kapal Mochan Mela is one of the important religious events of Haryana. This fair is celebrated in the month of Kartik during Kartik Purnima as per the Hindu calendar. According to the Gregorian calendar the fair of Kapal Mochan is usually held in the months of October or November. This fair continues for a period of four days and is concluded on the Kartik Purnima day.

According to the local people Kapal Mochan is also known as Sansar Mochan. It is the sacred place of Sudhi Devi. The Kapal Mochan got its named when the begging bowl was slipped from the hands of Lord Shiva after Bhram Hatya. The Pail of calf & cow that terminated the cruel saint also got freed from their sin by taking holy dip in the Kapal Mochan sarovar. It is because of this reason that many devotees also take a dip in the sacred Kapal Mochan, Rin moc-han and Surajkund sarovar. This is also known as the Kartik Snan. They also light diyas on the banks of these three sarovars.

These are the most important rituals that are performed during this fair. The devotees believe that these rituals will help them in attaining Moksha. Besides, it will also please the Gods and will free them from the sins of Bhram Hatya.

The Kapal Mochan Mela attracts several pilgrims and tourists from different parts of the world, especially from the Northern India.
