Leh is one of the most favorite and exotic tourist destinations in India. It is the capital city of Ladakh and is located on the Himalayan Mountains at an altitude of almost 3,505 m above sea level. Leh is one of the important places for the Tibet-Buddhist culture. As such many Tibetan Buddhist pilgrims flocks this city every year. The breath-taking natural landscape, the pleasant climate and colorful monasteries of this place have mesmerized several tourists all over the world.

The most important tourist attraction of Leh is the Leh Palace. It was built in the 17th century for the Royal family and is believed to be the replica of the Potala palace located in Lhasa. The important place to visit is the Sankar monastery. It belongs to the Gelukpa order and is regarded as a very sacred place for the Buddhist people. The best thing about this monastery is that it has an impression of the Buddhist deity Avalokiteshwara Padmahari or Chenresig, which has 1,000 heads and an equal number of arms.

The other places for the tourists to visit are the Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, Shanti Stupa, Alchi gompa, the royal residence and the Thikse gompa.

The extremely cold climate of Leh may be quite uncomfortable for certain tourists but welcome smile on the faces of the Ladakhi people is surely warm up their hearts. On visiting Ladakh you can surely feel on top of the world.
