The first action you must take if your PAN card is lost is to register a complaint with the local police satiation and get a copy of the FIR in proof of your lost PAN card. This is very essential because, the FIR will have to be produced when you apply for a duplicate PAN card. The procedure to get a duplicate PAN card is very simple if you present the application with the required documents.

How to apply for a duplicate PAN card

• Inform your local police station and get a copy of the FIR regarding the lost PAN card
• Fill up the change request or correction form which is available with the UTI Technology Service Limited (UTITSL) or from the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) branches or you can even down load the form from the website of UTITSL or NSDL.

You need to fill up the correction form giving your name, date of birth and father’s name and the lost PAN card number.

In case you don’t remember the lost PAN card number, you can retrieve the same from the website of the Income Tax Department http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/knownpan/jps. You need to affix a stamp size photo in the form and submit to the PAN application centre of UTITSL or NSDL and you will get your PAN card within 15 days.
