M Night Shyamalan

Manoj Nelliattu Shyamalan or popularly known as M Night Shyamalan (born August 6, 1970 at Mahé, Pondicherry, India) is known popularly as M. Night Shyamalan. He was born in India. His doctor parents immigrated to the US. He grew up in Penn Valley in Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. He became a sensation as an Academy Award-nominated Indian American film producer, writer and director with The Sixth Sense in 1999 that grossed more than $600 million. He married Bhavna Vaswani, Indian psychologist, in 1993. They reside in Pennsylvania with their two daughters.

Education & Career of M Night Shyamalan

Shyamalan studied at a private Episcopal school in Philadelphia, and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. It was at NYU that he fixed ‘Night’ at the middle of his name.

At the age of eight he received a Super-8 camera fascinated with Steven Spielberg, his idol. He made his first film in 1992, Praying with Anger, based on his trip to India. His next film was Wide Awake (1998).

Important work by M Night Shyamalan

Media Rights Capital teamed up with Night Shyamalan forming Night Chronicles which is a new production and financing partnership to release a film annually. Shymalan not only comes out with ideas, but also writes, directs, produces and quite often acts in the films.

Shyamalan’s films include The Happening (2008); Lady in the Water (2006); The Village (2004); Signs (2002); Unbreakable (2000); and The Sixth Sense (1999).

Nominated as Best Director- Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay by Directors Guild of America (1999); nominated as Best Director for British Academy Awards (1999); and nominated for Academy Best Original Screenplay and Best Director awards (1999).
