Manektari Punam Fair is one of the important fairs in the state of Gujarat. This fair is organized every year at Dakor in Kheda district of Gujarat. Manektari Punam Fair is celebrated on the 15th day of Ashwin Maas of Hindu calendar. According to the Gregorian calendar the timing of this fair is somewhere in the month of September after the monsoon season.
Important rituals
This fair is celebrated with a high spirit by the local people. Several devotees flock from different parts of the country to be a part of this important fair. During this fair all the devotes gather together to worship the full moon on mahanekatri poonam. Certain important rituals are also being performed by the priests in the temple to please the Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
Activities in the fair
The devotees celebrated this fair to mark their happiness towards the changing season. Throughout the fair the whole village of Dakor is decorated with beautiful flowers and different types of attractive lights. Several types of stalls and shops selling different types of essential products are set up in the fair for the people. The stalls selling important items like the utensils, garments, women decorative items, toys are the ones that attract a huge crowd. Many traders from the adjoining areas also come over to take part in this fair.
Besides this, several dramas, traditional folk dances and music are being performed by the people in this fair. Magnificent display of fireworks also forms an important part of this fair.
