National Institute of Design is internationally acclaimed as one of the finest educational and research institutions for Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design. NID is an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India and is recognized by the Dept. of Scientific and Industrial Research, Govt, of India as a Scientific & Industrial Research Organization.
Eligibility
- Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear in 2008 for qualifying examinations under Higher Secondary (10+2) or Equivalents like AISSCE / IB / ICSE., etc Upper Age limit for candidates is 20 years (relax able by 3 years for reserved categories) as on 1.6.2008
- This 4-years program, including a Foundation year, is offered in the following three Faculty streams (possible areas of design specialization through projects are given in brackets):
- Communication Design (Graphic Design, Animation, Film Design, Film & Video Communication, Exhibition (Spatial) (Design)
- Industrial Design (Product Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Ceramic & Glass Design)
- Textile and Apparel Design (Textile Design)
Eligibility Criteria for PGDPD:
- Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree (including those appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year 2007-08)
- Those applying for more than one programme should send in separate application forms.
- One cannot apply for more than two programs.
Application Procedure
Forms and information, can be obtained from Academic Office, NID, Ahmedabad directly by sending a Demand Draft on any Scheduled Bank payable at Ahmedabad for Rs. 10507- (Rs.500/-for reserved categories, who should also send a copy of the relevant document from competent authority) favouring National Institute of Design, and a self-addressed envelope of 8"x12" size with Rs.25/- stamps affixed. Mark your envelope 'Admissions 2008'. Forms downloaded from NID's website, along with required amount of DD drawn in favour of National Institute of Design, payable at Ahmedabad will also be accepted. Design Aptitude Tests (DAT) for eligible candidates for Graduate Diploma Programmes will be held at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kochi, and Kolkata & Mumbai. Application forms and prospectus can also be obtained from following select branches of Bank of India.
Exam Schedule
The entrance test for admission to the UG and PG courses in NID consist of three design aptitude tests carrying a total of 60 points. The objective of the test is to evaluate the perception, attitudes, aptitudes, and motivation essential to a design career. The test for Under Graduate courses will include memory drawing, knowledge of proportions and perspective, thematic color arrangement, abstract symbolism and visual design.
Admission Procedure
Selection is based on the scores obtained in the entrance test, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications. Based on the scores, candidates are short listed and are called for second phase admission procedure. All those called for the second phase are required to attend the studio tests and interview, which completes the process of selection. The procedures grades and weightage for each year will be decided by the Admission Committee for the year.
