The National Institute of Fashion Technology was established under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India to develop talent for the fashion Industry. It is the foremost Institute amongst its peers in the sectors of Design, Management and Technology. It helps develop young students into skilled professionals to enable them to take up careers in the fashion business. The parliament of India has empowered NIFT to award degrees and academic distinctions at its own discretion.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology has thirteen centers in India and one center overseas. Through these centers B. Design in Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design and Fashion Communication at the undergraduate level are offered. The institute also has post graduate programmes like M. Design, MFM Master of Fashion Management and M FT master in fashion technology courses on offer.
In the undergraduate programme three hundred thirty seats in Fashion Design, Sixty seats in Leather Design, two hundred seventy seats in Accessory design, three hundred seats in Textile design, one hundred eighty seats in Knitwear design, one hundred fifty seats in fashion communication and two hundred seventy seats in apparel production. In the post graduate programme it offers sixty seats in Master of Design – Design Space, two hundred forty seats in Master of Fashion Management and one hundred twenty seats in Master of Fashion Technology. The National Institute of Fashion Technology offers all these courses through its New Delhi Centre. Other centers cater to the industries need in and around the area.
