Railway fares in Indian Railways

The explanatory notes regarding the fares are as follows:

• Within each distance slabs, the fares are same for all distances.

• The minimum charge of 200km are not applicable for sleeper coaches since they are declared unreserved by the zonal railways in certain trains and in specified sections.

• The railway has also introduced the variable scheme fare in which the basic fares of the new high capacity coaches would be reduced. Here the applicable discounts on peak period would also be available to some popular trains all round the year. The fares of First and two-tier AC cars during the peak period would also be applicable to all the popular trains in the entire year.

• The Jan Shatabdi express fares include reservation fee as well as supplementary charges. In some cases, development charges are also applicable.

• In Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains, children below five years age would be provided with food at no extra cost.

• The passengers of the Garib Rath Express are now able to have Bed-roll after the payment of specific charges.

• The basic fares of Garib Rath Express trains are inclusive of reservation fees and service tax. Supplementary charges as well as development charges are also applicable.

• The fares of the QST or Quarterly Season Tickets would be 2.7 times higher then that of Monthly season tickets or MST.

• Bed-roll is offered to the passengers of Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains at free of cost but in Garib Rath, which also a fully air-conditioned are is offered to the passengers at a cost. After the payment of the stipulated charges, the passengers are allowed to have blankets and pillow.

• The Zonal railways now hold the responsibility for the notification of the fares for all point-to-point stations for Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express Trains.
