Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana

• The Employees State Insurance corporation has introduced “Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana” in April 2005 for the workers covered under the Scheme, who lose their job involuntarily due to retrenchment, closure of factories/ establishments and permanent disability not arising out of employment injury.

• The Employees “Provident Fund Scheme, 1952 seeks to provide financial security for employees in an establishment by providing a system of compulsory savings.

• The scheme covers employees getting wages not exceeding Rs. 6500 per month.

• Employees’ Pension Scheme (1995), was introduced for the industrial workers. Under the scheme, pension at the rate of 50% of pay is payable to the employees on retirement/ superannuating on completion of 33 years qualifying service.

• A minimum 10 years service is required for entitlement to pension.

• Majority of employment of women employed in the rural areas

• Lowest employment of women was noticed in electricity, gas and water sectors.

Statistics of Women Employment

• Per cent of female population as workers to total female population – 25.6% (2001).

• 87% of the rural women workers are engaged in the agriculture as laborers and cultivars.

• 80% of women workers in urban areas are in unorganized sectors.

• The employment of women in the organized sector is 17.8% to the total organized sector employment in the country.

• Industrial worker – 2001 = 100.

• Rural Laborers - 1986 – 87 = 100.

• Agricultural Laborers - 1986 – 87 = 100.
