The island of Rameswaram is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations of south India. It is also popularly known as Varanasi of the south. The island is situated along Madurai and is 163 kilometers on the south east of Medora. It is 20 kilometers away from Sri Lanka across the Gulf of Mannar.

Railways – Trains are available from Chennai, Thanjavur, Coimbatore and Madurai. It is the end of the rail tracks of India.
Airways – Flights are available from Chennai and Madurai.
By Road – The magnificent two kilometer long bridge on the Indian Ocean is the national highway number 49. Buses are available to go to Rameswaram from Madurai.

But Rameswaram gets a little bit pleasant in the winters.
