The Regional Institute of English was formed in the year 1963 to make improvement in the methods of teaching and learning English. Innovative techniques are used in the process of teaching and learning that makes it easy for the students to learn English. The institute addresses the needs of learning English in the southern states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. The RIESI provides a good atmosphere that helps in learning English.

The Regional Institute of English, South India (RIESI) is located in Bangalore, Karnataka. It is 10 km away from the city.
Infrastructure Available at RIESI
The RIESI is equipped with good infrastructure that helps in the learning of English. A full fledged library with a good collection of books, journals, audio/video materials and a lot of reference materials are available. There is a computer laboratory with 15 terminals and a server used for the courses conducted in RIESI. It also serves as a link to other institutions in the state. There is an audio language lab with lots of reference materials for learning materials. It is likely that this lab will be having an online feature for learning English at your own pace. There is a recording room in which the learning audio materials are recorded for the students. A 120 seat capacity auditorium with latest equipments is available. Classrooms with all the facilities are available. Accommodation for the students of both genders and a canteen are available.
What they do at RIESI?
The training wing of the RIESI conducts programmes for the teachers working in other institutions to improve English in teaching. The programmes could be short term, long term, in-service and induction types. A research wing at RIESI does research on teaching and learning English and on how to develop the skills of the teachers. Researches like applied research, action research and exploratory research are done at RIESI. Scholarships are also formulated for the teachers. The Publication wing publishes teaching and learning materials in the form of print media and non print media. The print media includes books, journals, and wall magazine. Non print media content are in the form of CDs, VCDs, audio and video cassettes, and other materials. Staff development is encouraged by the staff development wing of the institute.
