Surat Airport is a domestic airport located in the city of Surat in the state of Gujarat. It is operated by Airports Authority of India and its airport code is STV. Surat Airport was inaugurated on 6 May 2007. It caters to only domestic travelers. No international airlines operate from this airport. International travelers can opt for Ahmedabad International Airport to reach their international destinations.
Surat is one of the fastest growing cities of India and an airport of its own has added to its pace. The Instrument Landing System installed at Surat Airport has been imported from Germany. Surat Airport is located in Magdala, near Surat in the state of Gujarat. Its geographical coordinates are Longitude: 72° 44’ 30” E and Latitude: 21° 6’ 51” N. Runway length of this airport is 3280 ft and elevation is 50 ft. Surat airport covers an area of 312 hectares. Travelers should try to reach the airport at least 2 hours before the departure of the flight. Taxis are the most convenient option of reaching the airport.
Terminals of Surat Airport
Surat Airport recently got a new terminal building. It was inaugurated on 27 February 2009 by Praful Patel. This terminal has a peak hour passenger handling capacity of 270 and covers an area of 8500 sq. mt. The second floor of the terminal is under construction.
Domestic Airlines at Surat Airport
At present only one airline, Air India Regional connects Surat to New Delhi. AAI aims at expanding this airport soon and provide flights to other major destinations across India.
