The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) was started as an Agricultural School in Saidapet as early as 1868 and later shifted to Coimbatore in 1906. The University came into existence in the year 1971. The university is one of the leading providers of agriculture related technologies in India. The University has 10 Colleges, 36 research stations and 14 Farm centers. The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University offers 12 UG programmes and 29 PG programmes.

Programs Offered
The TNAU offers Science programs and Technology programs for UG. B.Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Home Science, and B.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering are offered as Science programs. In the Technology programs B.Tech in Biotechnology, Horticulture, Food Process Engineering, Energy and Environment Engineering, Bioinformatics, Agricultural Information Technology, and B.S. in Agribusiness Management are available.
Admissions
For admissions to the university you can get the application form from the university by paying Rs. 670 as Demand Draft drawn in favor of Dean. If you are downloading the application from the University’s website, you have to send an application fee of Rs. 600 along with the filled in application. The same application can be used for any of the UG programmes offered.
Selection of the candidates for the UG programmes will be purely based on merit. The marks obtained in the qualifying examinations (four subjects) are converted to 50 and this score is used for the admissions. If more than one student has the same marks, the selection is based on the following in the order of preference given below,
- Marks in Mathematics
- Marks in Physics
- Marks in Chemistry and
- Date of Birth (the older person gets preference)
