The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (AAVIN) was registered in the year 1981. Previously the control over the milk cooperatives was with the Dairy Development Department. The aim of AAVIN is to procure milk, process it, chill it, pack and sell it to the consumers. With many private companies entering the field of dairy, the Tamil Nadu government is giving high priority to improve the performance of the cooperatives. Tamil Nadu is one of the leading states in India in milk production with about 14.5 million litres per day.

Activities of AAVIN
Knowing the importance of the milch cattle free veterinary assistance is provided to those owned by the members of the milk cooperative societies. Programmes like artificial insemination, modern methods of animal husbandry and modern practices, supply of balanced cattle feeds are carried out by AAVIN. The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation has a steady network for procurement and the prices fixed for the milk from its members are remunerative. Quality milk and milk products are supplied to the consumers. New chilling centres and pasteurization plants with modern processing systems are installed to carry out their activities smoothly. Cattle feed in the form of pellets and mash are produced at the rate of 100 MT per day by the cattle feed plants in Madhavaram, Erode, and Kappalur.
Products of AAVIN
Milk and dairy based products are produced by AAVIN and sold to the consumers. Some of the products in Milk are, Pasteurized Toned Milk with 3% Fat, Standardized Milk with 4.5% Fat, Full cream milk with 6% Fat and Double Toned Milk with 1.5% Fat. Ghee in tin packs of 200 gms to 15 kg and Carton packs of 500 gms and 1 kg, and Sachets of 50 gms and 500 gms are sold in the market. Skimmed Milk Powder in packs of 500 gms, 1 kg and 25 kg are available. Cheese in chiplets of 25 gms and 250 gms are sold in retail. 200 ml flavored milk in flavors like Cardamom, Chocolate, Strawberry, Pista, and Pineapple are produced. Ice creams in packs of 50 gms to 1 gallon are available in the flavors like Chocolate, Pineapple, Blackcurrant, Pista, Chaco Risin, Tutti Frutti, Butter Scotch, Mango, Badam, Vanilla, and Strawberry. Sticks and cones are also available. AAVIN has introduced a new Sugar Free Ice Cream too.
Apart from these products, products like Butter, Milk sweets, Masala Butter Milk, Mango Drink – Maavin, Milk Ghoa and Curd are also produced by AAVIN.
