Tatkal quota of Indian railways is exclusively offered Indian railway passengers at the time of emergency travel. You have the provision last minute booking with the help of Tatkal quota.

Rules and regulations of train ticket booking under tatkal quota

  • Ticket can be booked under tatkal quota only before 48 hours of the journey.
  • Train ticket booked under tatkal quota is not liable to cancel except some circumstances.
  • Train ticket booked under tatkal quota cost will be more than its actual cost.

Charges on Tickets booked under tatkal quota

  • Tatkal charges have been renewed very recently by Indian Government. The various tatkal fare is as follows.
  • There will be 10 percent of ticket base fare charge for second class.
  • 30 percent of base fare as tatkal charges for all other classes.
  • For second sitting class of travel the minimum charge for tatkal ticket is Rs.10 and maximum of Rs.20.
  • For sleeper class of travel the minimum charge for tatkal ticket is Rs.75 and maximum of Rs.150.
  • For AC Chair car class of travel the minimum charge for tatkal ticket is Rs.75 and maximum of Rs.150.
  • For AC 2 tier class of travel the minimum charge for tatkal ticket is Rs.200 and maximum of Rs.300.
  • For AC 3 tier class of travel the minimum charge for tatkal ticket is Rs.200 and maximum of Rs.300.
  • For executive class of travel the minimum charge for tatkal ticket is Rs.200 and maximum of Rs.300.

Indian Government rules for tatkal ticket refund

A tatkal ticket booked can be cancelled only under following circumstances.
  • suppose the train was delayed for 3 hours from the time of journey at the source point of the passenger ticket can be cancelled. But note that the delay should be from originating point not the boarding point of the passenger.
  • If the train will be moving on a diverted route and passenger is not ready to opt for it. But note that the diversion should include different originating or boarding point which is not mentioned on your ticket.

Note: In above circumstances the money will be refunded excluding tatkal charges and you must be able to produce the ticket. The cancellation has to happen 2 hours before the travel time.

Timing of IRCTC website to book ticket under tatkal quota is 8.00 A.M on 2 days before the journey and up to 11p.m.
