What is Tatkal Ticket Booking

Indian Railways offers tatkal booking in most of the trains where tickets can be booked two days before the departure of the train even if there is Waiting List. Tatkal tickets cost Rs 80 more of sleeper class, Rs 200 more for AC III Class and Rs 300 more for AC II Class and you can not Cancel Tatkal Tickets.

Normally for superfast trains, the quote for tatkal is 172 in sleeper, 24 in AC III and 8 in AC II class and 2 in AC I Class, though it depends on train to train and number of stations.

Tatkal Reservation Timings

Tatkal Ticket booking starts 2 days before the day, the train beings. For e.g. if the Train is from Delhi to Chennai on Saturay at 5 P.M, the tatkal reservation timings for it will start from 8 a.m. thursday. No tatkal tickets can be booked before this time, eventhough the online booking starts from 00:30 am, tatkal booking only starts at 8 am when all the Indian railway ticketing counters opens.

The two day will get counted from the starting station and not from and intermediate station, for e.g. even if the train reaches nagpur on sunday, its tatkal booking timings will start from 8 am Thursday only as the train is starting on Saturday from Delhi.
