Understanding an Indian Railway ticket

The Indian Railway ticket is available to book from the reservation centers and also from the website of Indian Railways. When the ticket is printed out or when the ticket is ready should understand the details given in the ticket. The details are given in both English and the national language Hindi for the ease of the passengers.

The passenger should first notice that the PNR number or Passenger name Record Number is printed on the ticket and this number is a unique one. This number will be required to check the status of the ticket.

The train number, the date of journey, the distance for which the ticket is issued and the number of the adults and children are printed on the ticket.
The class of accommodation in which the passenger is travelling is also mentioned in the ticket. The abbreviations of the travel class are; 1A First AC, 2A – 2 Tire AC Sleeper, 3A – 3 tire AC, CC- AC Chair Car, FC – First Class, SL – Sleeper Class, II – Second Class Seat.

The originating and the destination station of the journey as well as the station up to which the passenger have sought the reservation are mentioned on the ticket both in Hindi and English.

The amount paid for the ticket both in words and figures are also mentioned in the ticket. The amount includes all the charge details such as CONC, R Fee, S. CH and Vou. Ch.

The date and time on which the ticket is bought is also displayed on the ticket.

The name of the train, the boarding station and the date and time of arrival along with the destination time remains mentioned on the ticket.
The status of the ticket is also mentioned if it is a confirmed one and if it is in the waiting list the indications such as PQWL, RLWL, RSWL etc are mentioned.
