The University of Madras incorporate in the year 1857 is one of the oldest universities in the southern region of India. It has over 50 departments that offer different courses on varied subjects. The Distance Education programmes are more popular among the students. The university offers UG and PG programmes through distance education also. This was established in the year 1981. Academic year courses starts during July / August and the Calendar year courses in January every year. The main campus for the distance education programme is situated in Chepauk.
