Dr. Vijay Mallya (born December 18, 1955 at Bantwal, Karnataka) is the son of Vittal Mallya, an industrialist. He is the Chairman the United Breweries Group and Kingfisher Airlines. Mallya married Sameera and they have a son, Sidhartha Vijay Mallya. Later he separated from her and married Rekha with whom he has two daughters, Leana and Tanya Mallya.
Vijay Mallya is also a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. His father died in 1983 when he was just 28 leaving him with a business empire that gave annual revenue of $100 million. He is ranked the 42nd richest person in India and 962nd in the world with a net worth of US$1.2 billion in 2008.
He has invested personally in thoroughbred horses, small newspapers in the San Francisco Bay Area and a game lodge in South Africa. He has a collection of 42 homes scattered across the world, three corporate jets including a customized Boeing 727, 250 vintage cars, and three yachts -including the Kalizma, a 165-footer once that actor Richard Burton once owned.

Vijay Mallya studied at La Martiniere Boys' College in Kolkata, completed his degree from St. Xavier's College, Kolkatta. He is the Chairman of United Breweries Group, Kingfisher Airlines, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Force India, United Racing and Bloodstock Breeders. The business empire he has built up includes fertilizers, engineering and petrochemicals. United Breweries Group is the third largest spirits conglomerate in the world. Kingfisher Airlines has become a leading Indian carrier.
Important Works of Vijay Mallya
Vijay Mallya established the Mallya Hospital in Bangalore. The hospital is located in Vittal Mallya road, named after his father. He also promotes the Mallya Aditi International School, an exalted private school in Bangalore. In 2004, he bid usefully for the famous sword of Tipu Sultan at a London auction bringing it back to India. He also is behind the UB City, a prized real estate with retail, corporate offices and services apartment.
