The main focus is to strengthen the extensions of Human Rights towards all strata of society especially the most vulnerable groups of society who have no representation in front of the Authorities. For the Human Rights Commission, one of its foremost activities is making inquiries into individual complaints usually in relations to violation of rights – that have enabled the Commission to get the concerned Authorities to make necessary system improvement and changes after these inquiries.
Besides making inquiries, the Commission actively zooms in on activities and issues related to human rights, like suo moto, or when social activists, concerned citizens, the media highlight atrocities.
The issues in purview of the Commission is a vast range from economical, social, cultural, civil, political rights, terrorist acts, insurgency, custodial rape, torture, death, reformations for police, prisons, juvenile homes, mental shelters and hospitals for women. It has urged upon the improvement and provision for primary health facilities for women and children by providing for basic needs likes food, proper nutrition, drinking water, and brought to light the fundamental justice and equality for the under privileged like Schedule Caste and Tribe.
The Human Right Commission also looks into the Rights of the physically disabled by making provisions like access to public services, rights of women and children subject to sexual discrimination and harassment, violence, starvation by death, food scarcity, rights of minorities, all these and more have come under the focus and scanner of the Human Rights Commission on more than several occasions.
