Under the special Marriage Act, 1954 any couples who wish marry regardless of the religion of the concerned parties has to follow certain procedure for their marriage. Thus, here the Registering a marriage is done by means of making the couples to sign in a Register in the presence of a local registrar for marriages along with the presence of certain witnesses for the marriage. This local registrar document is normally known as the sub-registrar of the assurance or the registrar of marriages and the office of the local registrar will be located in the Taluk place.
The following general procedure gets you with where to register a marriage. Before some days for the date of marriage, a form has to be filled in and submitted at the local registrar office along with certain other necessary documents. This set of documents may vary from one registrar office to another. Generally they include the proof of age of both the parties and their photographs. This set of document should be produced along with the required fees and charge.
After minimum of 30 days of time from the date of filling out the application form, either the marriage registrar can be approached to register a marriage or else they can be asked to come to the place where the marriage is actually fixed. For this an appointment in prior has to be fixed, paid with the required amount.
There after both the parties should sign the register along with sign of the witnesses and thus would be proclaimed to be married to each other. After few days of marriage, a certified copy of the register can be obtained from the same office by paying the same amount. This certificate which was signed to register a marriage is generally termed as "Marriage Certificate".
