Yellamma Devi Fair

Yellamma Devi Fair is one of the most important fair of Karnataka. It is celebrated in many occasions from the month of October to February. Generally this fair is held 5 times between October to February.

The fair is organized in honor of Yellamma Devi or Renuka. The Yellamma Devi temple is located at Saundatti in Belgaum district.

Features

  • The temple is situated on the top of Yellammagudda hill. The shrine of Yellamma Devi or Yellamma Devi herself is considered to be the wife of Sage Jamadagni.

  • This fair is attended by a lot of people in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and almost all the states of the country.

  • As it takes place on the full moon day of Margasira thus this fair very popular among the devotees also. This full moon day is considered to be very auspicious and is also termed as Bharat Hunnime.
  • Yellamma Devi Fair features the very famous Neeramanavi Yellamma jatra which is taken out in the fair on the full moon day or on the sacred day of Bharat Hunnime.

  • Yellamma Devi is worshipped with full devotion following all the rituals and the customs in the authentic ways. Yellamma Devi is worshipped in the form of Shakti Puja.
  • It is during this festival that the trend of becoming Devdasis or slaves of God is practiced.
