how to book railway ticket for break journey on irctc or any other site,are facilities avlbl for customers on internet...?

i want to book a ticket from chennai to patna via howrah,but on irctc website it is not possible to buy one ticket for whole journey,that means for above mentioned journey i ned to buy two tickets seperetly...are there any facilities on irctc or other website so that i can buy single ticket for whole journey?
