Bodh Gaya is a site of Buddhist pilgrimage and is Situated in the Gaya district in Bihar, India. Most Buddhists, consider Bodh Gaya as the most important pilgrimage sites because of its importance in the life of Gautama Buddha.

What to see & do at Bodh Gaya

In the main there is the famous Mahabodhi temple or stupa. One can also see the descendant of the original Bodhi Tree under which the Lord Buddha had attained Nirvana.

At a distance of about six miles from Gaya is the temple of Bodh Gaya, which is one of the holiest places in the world as per Buddhist tradition. One can also see here a Thai Monastery and a Japanese temple.

By plane - The nearest airport here is at Gaya about 16km. International carriers like Druk Air offer competitive prices for here from Bangkok.

By train - Closest railway station is Gaya about 16km. From the railway station take a bus or taxi. There are express trains every two hours to Bodh Gaya. Train travel from Calcutta is about 8 hours and from Delhi, the journey is about 15 hours.

By bus - The Bihar State Tourist Development Coporation has daily deluxe bus services to and fro to Bodh Gaya. The road from Patna isn’t really too good.

Stay at Bodh Gaya

One can stay in monastery guest houses, which are a cheap option to hotels. Here only donations are accepted.
