How to join Indian Army

Applicants may apply for a Permanent or Short Service Commission in the Indian Army
Eligibility to join via the National Defence Academy, Pune:

  • Applicant must be an Indian National
  • Educational Qualification: 10+2
  • Admissions open: Twice a year

Entrance Examinations

  • UPSC Exam
  • Service Selection Board Interview
  • Medical Exam

Duration of the Training: 3 years

Eligibility to join via Indian Military Academy, Dehradun:

  • Indian National
  • Educational qualification: Graduation

Entrance Exam:

  • Applicants must clear Combined Defence Services in Final year of Graduation.
  • Clear SSB
  • Medical Test

Short Service Commission (Men):

Entrance:

  • Clear SSC
  • SSC selection is followed by a Written exam and SSB Interview
  • Medical Test

Note: Engineering Graduates Entrance: Only SSB + Medical Test

Short Service Commission (Women):

Eligibility: Graduate/ Post Graduate in any stream
Entrance:

  • Written Exam
  • Interview
  • Medical Exam

Training Centers:
Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai

Documents required:
1.X Class date of birth certificate.
2.X /XII Class marks sheet.
3.Character Certificate to be signed by village Sarpanch (not more than six months old).
4.Domicile Certificate.
5.Caste Certificate. (if needed)
6.Dependent Certificate (In case of son of Ex-servicemen/ War Widow/Widow) duly signed by record office.
7.NCC Certificate (A/B/C Certificate).
8.Certificate of Achievements.

Carry all original documents along with duly attested photocopies of each.

  • Notice for Recruitment published in all leading daily newspapers.
  • Rally conducted by ZRO
  • Checking of documents.
  • Physical measurements
  • Physical fitness test.
  • Medical examination.
  • Written exam.
  • Declaration of merit list.
  • Enrolment and Dispatch of selected candidates in order of merit to Centers.

Also known as Common Entrance Exam
Examinations Held on the last Sunday of each month

Paper 1
General Knowledge/ Current Affairs/ IQ/ Numerical Ability Questions
Time: 60min. Marks: 100
Pass: 32 marks

Paper 2
Technical: Physics, Mathematics, chemistry.
Time: 30m Total marks: 50 Pass Marks: 16

Clk/ Skt: English and Mathematics.
Time: 30min Total Marks: 50 Pass Marks: 20

Nursing Asst: Botany, Biology, Chemistry
Time: 30min Total Marks: 50 Pass Marks: 16

PHYSICAL FITNESS:

BASIC MEDICAL STANDARDS
All interested candidates are required to have:
Excellent Physique
Well developed Chest with a minimum expansion of 5cms.
Sound Mental Health
Normal hearing
Eyesight: 6/6 vision (both eyes)
Colour vision: CP III and must not be suffering from colour blindness
Good dental Health
Candidate must not be suffering from any deformity or disease.

All Candidates must clear the Physical Fitness Test:

  • 1 Mile Run
  • Balance
  • Pull Ups
  • 9 feet Ditch
