Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET)

Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is the first step in the process of seeking admission to the 2-Year full time Post-Graduate Degree Programs in Management offered by the IITs & IISc. Joint Management Entrance Test is only a qualifying examination


  • Candidates who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent
  • Candidates having a Master’s degree in any discipline
  • Students appearing for the final examinations can also apply.

Application Procedure

There are two different ways by which candidates can apply for JMET. i.e Online Registration and Offline Registration. The candidate may apply online by visiting the concerned institute’s respective websites. The candidate can obtain the brochure and application form from the GATE offices of the zone in which you select your test centre on payment of the prescribed amount by demand draft drawn in favour of the concerned institute and can also get it by post, by sending a request to the Chairman, GATE, at any of the IITs and IISc.

Exam schedule

The JMET test is of 2 hours duration. The test will consist of 150 questions (objective / multiple choice type) which will consist of the following sections:

  • Verbal communication
  • Logical reasoning
  • Quantitative ability
  • Data interpretation ability
  • General business environment awareness

The JMET test requires knowledge of basic mathematics (arithmetic, algebra, matrices, trigonometry, mensuration, plane and co-ordinate geometry, calculus, set theory, probability and statistics etc.), and English. There is negative marking for incorrect answers. For a wrong answer to a question, 25% of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted.
Note : The pattern of question paper is also subject to change from time to time.

Admission Procedure

A candidate to be qualified in JMET, he/she should, not only, secure certain minimum marks in the test paper, but also, should necessarily obtain certain minimum marks in each of the four sections. It is not mandatory that all candidates who are declared as qualified will be called for Group Discussion / Interview etc. Calling the candidates for such later process of selection is the prerogative of the admitting Institute. JMET qualified candidates may contact the management schools/departments of the concerned institutes for additional information, if any. It may be noted that the GATE/ JMET offices will not respond to queries on the admission procedure.


JMET is generally held in the month of December.
